Outreach projects far and near

The Outreach Group were delighted to receive these photos from Jayne Smith of children enjoying the puppets sent from Musselburgh.

They were also visited recently by two Congregational delegates from Malawi who took lots of baby items back home with them. These photos show the gifts being distributed at the premature baby unit in Malawi.

Up until now the focus has been on overseas projects, however the plan was always to help the local community as well. With this in mind a connection has been made with Olivebank Children and Families Centre. As well as providing blankets for the baby unit it is hoped that the group will be able to pass on some of their skills to young mothers.

The Staff from Olivebank were delighted to receive a selection of handmade toys, many representing nursery rhyme characters, to use in story telling with the young children in the centre.

Our latest Outreach is to Levenhall Nursing home. We received a request for blankets which we duly supplied. When the Minister delivered these it transpired that the home doesn’t have a Minister in place to lead worship or celebrate Easter and Christmas with the residents. Other needs were also identified, there are some residents with dementia so a new project was launched to provide stimulus through crafts designed especially for those coping with dementia. Staff and Residents have been delighted to receive these and our Minister is planning to conduct a monthly service from now on!

Supporting our own Church

The Outreach group have made several beautiful soft toys which will be raffled before Christmas with all funds being split between the Sunday School and our Teenage Group, the TGI’s
